Most business owners know when their website isn’t great. They just don’t realise how much it’s actually costing them. An outdated website doesn’t just look bad — it actively turns potential customers away, ranks poorly on Google, and performs badly on the phones that most people are using to browse.
I’m Eugene, and redesigning underperforming websites is one of the most common things I’m asked to do. It’s often where the biggest improvements happen — because the gap between where the site is and where it should be is so large.
The three most common reasons people come to me for a redesign
It looks outdated. First impressions online happen in seconds. If your website looks like it was built ten years ago — and a lot of them were — potential customers make a judgement about your business before they’ve read a single word. A modern, professional design immediately builds credibility and trust.
It’s not showing up on Google. Older websites were often built without any real thought given to SEO. No proper page structure, no local optimisation, missing meta titles and descriptions, slow load speeds. Google has moved on significantly in recent years and older sites often haven’t kept up. A redesign done properly addresses all of this from scratch.
It doesn’t work on mobile. If your website was built more than five or six years ago there’s a good chance it wasn’t designed with mobile as a priority. Today the majority of people searching for local businesses in Louth and Meath are doing it on their phone. A site that’s awkward to use on a small screen is losing you enquiries every single day.
What a redesign actually involves
A redesign isn’t just a fresh coat of paint. Done properly it’s a full rebuild with your current problems in mind:
- A modern design that reflects your business professionally
- Rebuilt from the ground up on WordPress for speed and ease of management
- Mobile-first — designed for phones before anything else
- Proper SEO structure built in from the start — page titles, headings, local optimisation
- Your existing content reviewed, improved and restructured where needed
- Redirects set up properly so you don’t lose any Google rankings you’ve already earned
That last point is important. A badly handled redesign can actually damage your Google rankings if old URLs aren’t redirected correctly. I make sure that doesn’t happen.
What to expect working with me
I’ll start by taking a look at your current site and having an honest conversation about what’s working, what isn’t, and what the priorities should be. From there I’ll put together a clear proposal so you know exactly what’s involved and what it’ll cost before anything starts.
Most redesigns take four to six weeks depending on the size of the site and how much content needs to be created or updated. I’ll keep you involved throughout so there are no surprises at the end.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a redesign cost? Most small business redesigns fall between €1,000 and €3,000 depending on the size of the site and what’s needed. I’ll give you a clear quote after an initial chat — no obligation.
Will I lose my Google rankings? Not if it’s handled properly. I set up 301 redirects from all old URLs to the new ones so Google transfers any authority the old pages had built up. This is something a lot of cheaper redesigns skip, and it can cause real problems.
Do I need to provide new content? Not necessarily. We can work with your existing content, improve it where needed, and only create new content where there are genuine gaps. I’ll guide you through what’s worth keeping and what needs updating.
How different will it look? As different as you want it to be. Some clients want a completely fresh look, others want to keep their branding but modernise the layout and improve performance. Either works — we’ll figure out what’s right for your business.
Can you redesign any type of website? Yes — I work with WordPress sites of all kinds, including WooCommerce shops. If your current site is on a different platform I can migrate it to WordPress as part of the redesign.
